Metro Deaf School - Minnesota North Star Academy

The 4th Annual Battle of the Books competition heated up this past May with 6 competing schools: California School for the Deaf, Fremont, Maryland School for the Deaf, Metro Deaf School-Minnesota North Star Academy, New Mexico School for the Deaf, Phoenix Day School for the Deaf, and Texas School for the Deaf.

Each school, comprising of four Junior High School students, had competing teams in various divisions. Students must apply for and be selected to participate in this extra-curricular activity; they are then coached by staff with one coach per division. Each division from each school read four selected books per division.

This year MDS-MNSA hosted the event. Questions were developed and submitted by each school, those questions were then signed by selected staff from MDS-MNSA and recorded, a DVD burned and shared with the participating schools for the competition which occurred live via VP.

MDS-MNSA students took FIRST PLACE in the Clerc and Foster divisions! MDS-MNSA took THIRD in the Galloway division. Congratulations to all the players, their coaches, the judges and organizers for this year’s exciting nation-wide literary challenge!
